What is a Charter School?

A charter school in Colorado is a school that is funded through district revenues but governed by a separate board.  LGCS became a charter school in 1996, to allow our community greater autonomy in governance, finances and general operations.  We are still a public school, but our employees are charter school employees, and our budget, policies and procedure are determined by our Charter School Board.  We are unique in the state of Colorado, in that we were one of the first charter schools to be formed from previous district schools, operating in district buildings.  Because of our unique status, we are considered "pioneers" among rural Colorado communities who wish to establish greater local autonomy for their schools.  Being a charter school is just one more way that our school establishes itself as a true community school!


Preschool through Sixth grade, with Online Curriculum Third through Eighth grade
No tuition
Four day week; Monday-Thursday, 7:55 am-4:00 pm
Smaller class size
Free breakfast for all students

May 4-7: Staff Appreciation week
May 5th at 6:00 p.m. is the next regular Charter Board Meeting
May 6:  Walk for Education from 9:00 to 11:00
Landsharks at 4:05 p.m. (This may be the final get together.)
May 7: SOLAR Day at the Florissant Fossil Beds for the entire school.
May 9: Lake George Library Science Fun Day at 1:00
May 11-14: Registration for the 2015-16 school year.
May 12:  End-of-Year MAP Testing
May 13:  Youth Dental Day for those who made appointments
May 14:  Spring Music Program “Let’s Jam” at 2:30 and 6:30
Everyone in the community is welcome to attend! May 19:  Field Trip-Grades PS-2 to Venetucci Farm Field Trip-Grades 3-6 to USAF Academy
Pebble Pups meet at the Florissant Museum at 6:00 p.m.
May 20: Field Day-Grades 4-6 in the morning
   Grades PS-3 in the afternoon
   3:00 Yearbook Signing- Ice Cream
May 21: ALL School Assembly at 2:30, 6th grade recognition afterwards.
Last day of school. Report cards go home.
